Childhood and origin

Our hero was born in Port Said, then his family eventually relocated to Minya in Upper Egypt. His father ran a small business store selling building supplies including porcelain and tiles from Great Britain. Hassan Allam finished primary school, but because of his family's struggle, he chose to join his father's business instead of continuing his school and academic career.

Did dropping school stop him from success?

He immigrated to Cairo in 1923 at the age of 19, he worked in a few contracting companies collecting experience and knowledge until he started his own construction company, he was decisive and good in making connections and deals, few years from starting his small company (Hassan Mohammed Allam & Co. for General Contracting), it began to grow gradually until he started his first big construction by the orders of king Farouk El Kassaseen Hospital on the Cairo-to-Ismailia agricultural road.

From this point he started various projects such as Mebara Hospital in Port Said furthermore, a power station in Damanhur, not only medical and power constructions were Hassan Allam targets, and he started the first oil refinery in Egypt located in Suez. Eventually, the company became one of the largest in the construction field in the country together with Osman Ahmad Osman's Arab Contractors Co.

The first relationship of Hassan Allam with President Anwar El Sadat

Hassan Allam wasn’t just in the field of construction, he also had great political actions one of them was

Protecting Anwar el-Sadat in his early years. In the 1940s, Sadat in an effort to evade political persecution, disguised himself as a truck driver at Allam’s company. Sadat later became the third president of Egypt.

Gamal Abdel Nasser Mega Constructions

The corporation survived the 1952 revolution and built a number of significant roads, including the Ismalia-Al 'Arish, Suez-Marsa Alam, and Alexandria-Marsa Matruh highways. Port Said also saw the completion of other constructions, including as a huge church and a mosque.

The firm was in charge of creating a new town for the Nubian people whose villages were located in the region that would eventually become Lake Nasser linked with the building of Aswan High Dam.

Hassan Allam lost ownership of the business when it was nationalized in 1961 as part of President Gamal Abdel Nasser's new socialist policies, Allam was demoted to become only a general manager.

Returning the Favor to Allam by President Anwar El Sadat

He founded his second company, Hassan Allam Sons, in 1975 by taking advantage of the Infitah, or open-door policy, implemented by President Anwar el-Sadat's administration.

Starting of Multi-National Constructions

Hassan Allam Sons Company became more than a construction company in Egypt, they progressed to be an empire by starting to have constructions in the Middle East, starting with the construction of an enormous sewage system in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Afterward, they had a branch in Algeria. Years later they have assets in London, United Kingdom.

From a zero to a hero

Hassan Allam, however, did not live to see the outcome of the bid. Numerous mourners attended his funeral, which was held at the Omar Makram Mosque in Tahrir Square. From the mosque, the crowd nearly reached the Ramesses Hilton. He was a great man and people loved him not because he was the manager, but for his humanity, kindness, and gentleness.

The second generation continued the success

Our hero today was the initiator of one of the most successful companies in Egypt, after his death the company progressed year after year in an escalating growth.
